World Cup warning over domestic abuse spikes

Research and local data consistently show that incidents of domestic abuse rise around major men’s football events, with reports increasing by around 25% following matches – regardless of whether the team wins, loses or draws.

Using AI Safely

Get Safe Online have launched a new campaign on using AI safely and responsibly. There is lots of useful information, including these TOP THREE CHECKS to spot AI-assisted scams:

CHECK the context: Be suspicious of unsolicited emails, messages or phone calls – even if they seem authentic. They could be fraudulent.

CHECK the details: The spelling and grammar in AI-generated content may be perfect, but it sometimes includes inconsistencies, such as slightly odd email addresses, incorrect logos or unusual phrasing. In images and videos, check for signs of things not quite as they should be.

CHECK identity independently: Don’t rely on just a message. Call or message the person or company using contact details you know to be correct to check if the sender is genuine.

Stop and think – you shouldn’t have to pay a fee for a missed delivery. If you’re unsure and you think you have a package arriving, check delivery notifications carefully to ensure they are genuine.

Remove valuables from cars

Reports of theft from vehicles can increase over the warmer months, especially in public car parks when people are enjoying outside spaces. Even items of little value may tempt a potential thief to break into a vehicle, to see what else there may be worth stealing.

FIFA World Cup Lottery Fraud

We’ve received reports from residents of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight who have been sent letters purporting to be from a FIFA World Cup Lottery. These are a form of lottery fraud please do not respond to any communication (letter, text, message, phone call) about a FIFA World Cup Lottery (or similar) in any way. Key indicators:

You receive notification for a lottery you never entered

You may be asked to pay an administrative fee or provide bank details

Urgency/secrecy – asking to keep your ‘win’ confidential

Words like ‘guaranteed’ or ‘100% genuine’ are used and precise amounts of money described
